KPP Energy, also known as Kansas Power Pool, is a municipal energy agency based in Wichita, Kansas, providing electricity and innovative energy solutions to 24 member communities across Kansas. Originally established as the Kansas Power Pool in 2005, the organization was created to help municipal utilities work together to address collective energy, generation, transmission, and resource needs. KPP Energy is a not-for-profit quasi-municipal organization owned by its member cities, with a mission centered on providing affordable, reliable, and responsible power along with innovative energy solutions.

KPP Energy manages a diversified portfolio of energy resources and supports its member communities through power supply, generation resources, transmission services, energy market participation, forecasting, and energy planning. Its member generation portfolio includes 46 generating units with a combined proven capacity of 183,242 kW, while KPP also participates in several additional generation and renewable energy resources. These include the Dogwood Energy Center, Greensburg Wind Farm, Grand River Dam Authority resources, and wind and hydroelectric power resources.

The organization is also expanding its renewable energy and energy-storage portfolio. KPP Energy’s PACE Solar Initiative involves the development of 18 MW of solar arrays across seven Kansas communities, supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Powering Affordable Clean Energy program. KPP also operates the Solomon Energy Storage Center, a battery facility capable of storing 4.7 MWh and discharging up to 1 MW per hour.

Through its combination of municipal power coordination, generation resources, transmission planning, renewable energy, energy storage, and member-focused services, KPP Energy plays an important role in supporting public power utilities throughout Kansas.
